KM United and Champion Hearts Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Screening

On the heels of the recent death of a Grafton High School basketball player during practice (read story), we have partnered with Champion Hearts to offer an HCM screening to KMU players. For more information on HCM and the screening procedure visit Champion Hearts' web site at www.championhearts.com.

When: Saturday, February 11th, 3:30--? PM
Where: Kettle Moraine Middle School
Cost: $35 per person*

SCREENINGS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!!! Please contact T.C. Ward (coachingdirector@kmunited.org or 414-702-3263) to schedule your appointment.

*Possible family discount. Please contact T.C. Ward for more information.

***Requirements***
Players should be at least 12-13 years old or older, as HCM cannot be diagnosed accurately before this age. Screenings will take 10-15 minutes. Champion Hearts prefers cash or check payments, but also has a credit card machine if needed. Parents and young adults can also be screened, so please take advantage of this opportunity. Participants should wear loose fitting clothing to their screening. Please visit their website, www.championhearts.com for more info. If you cannot attend the February 11th clinic but still wish to be screened, please contact T.C. Ward and he will work with Champion Hearts directly for you. These types of screenings are not normally covered by insurance unless there is a preexisting condition, so this is a great opportunity to get screened at an affordable price.

Success Stories - Fall, 2011

U13 Boys Blue

1st Place Racine Lighthouse Classic Tournament

Congratulations to the KM United U-13 Boys Blue team as they defeated Racine United Red in the finals, 3-0. This is the third time the boys have earned hardware at a tournament this season, and their first time earning first place honors. Goalkeeper Cal Borowski had a phenomenal tournament, allowing only two goals in four games (.50 GAA), and stopping three penalties en route to a shootout victory in the semi-finals over WSA Woodridge Storm (IL). Congratulations to the U8 Academy Elite Junior Silver team! It claimed second place at the North Shore United Fall Soccer Classic on September 24-25. The team, which also showed well at the Battle on the Border tournament in August, now focuses its attention on league games in the Southeast Classic League. Kettle Moraine United’s two other U8 Academy Elite Junior teams (Yellow and Navy) also compete in the Southeast Classic League and are off to great starts. These Elites show you’re never too young to have fun and develop your skills on the competitive pitch!

U8 Academy Elite Boys

U13 Boys Blue

Coach's Corner

Responsible Sports Coach
Tip of the Week

After each practice, assess how well you covered each item on your written practice plan. Make sure to add to your next practice plan the items that still need more work. Do the same thing after games, so you can make reactive daily adjustments.

Plannng is also needed to ensure you are filling your players' emotional tanks.  For help, use the Positive Charting worksheet. Get the chart!

Tip of the Week

Great players have the ability to "leave it on the field." After a game, regardless of the result, move on to something else your child will enjoy.

Watch how youth softball parents, players, and their coach move on from mistakes during practice. Check it out!
